MY TRAVEL: PETALING JAYA,SELANGOR

Petaling Jaya, colloquially referred to as "PJ", is a city in Petaling District in the state of Selangor. PJ was granted city status on 20 June 2006.

Petaling Jaya is surrounded by Kuala Lumpur to the east, Sungai Buloh to the north, Shah Alam and Subang Jaya to the west and Bandar Kinrara to the south.

I used to work at The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia in Petaling Jaya, Selangor from 1999 to 2011. I have some memorable photos from Petaling Jaya while working there; please refer to my blog about The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia.

The long-time HQ of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM), is located in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

IEM was founded in 1959; for its first 17 years, it operated out of borrowed spaces and "squatted" in various offices.

The construction of this Bangunan Ingenieur was completed in May 1976 and was officially inaugurated on April 22, 1977, by the then Deputy Prime Minister, Dato' Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

For many PJ residents, the building is equally famous for housing a long-standing Pizza Hut outlet on the ground floor.

Wisma IEM, the second building owned by the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM). In April 2007, the IEM Council decided to purchase this building (located across the street from the Bangunan Ingenieur). The dedicated IEM Building Fund was established to encourage member contribution to reduce the debt. It is located at 21, Jalan Selangor, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

PETALING JAYA HILTON

The hotel near PJ New Town, within 2 km of Petaling Jaya Museum, Taman Jaya Park and Amcorp Mall.

In Malaysia, the Hiltons run 11 hotels; however, Hilton Petaling Jaya (PJ Hilton) has remained an old but gold persona, having roots back to when it was formerly known as the Jaya Puri Hotel (Hilton International to overmanagement in 1982), officially opened as Hilton Petaling Jaya in 1984.

IEM SECRETARIAT

The IEM staff who are responsible for the administrative, documentation and governance-related functions of an organisation, such as coordinating a seminar, course, workshop, congress, symposium, conference, site visit, etc., for the IEM members.

Amcorp Mall is an unfussy shopping complex featuring boutiques, kiosks, a grocery store & a weekend flea market. Located at Persiaran Barat, Petaling Jaya, just opposite the Taman Jaya LRT Station.

The Armada Hotel PJ is located at Lorong C, Section 52, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. It was built and officially opened in 1997, operated by Hotel Armada (PJ) Sdn Bhd.

ASME Code Section IX was conducted by the Mechanical Engineering Technical Division of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia at the Armada Hotel at Petaling Jaya, Selangor, from 27 to 28 March 2006.

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) code is a set of standards that regulate the design, construction, maintenance, and alteration of pressurised equipment.

The IEM Brainstorming Session for IEM Secretariat Staff was held at Bangunan Ingenieur at Petaling Jaya, Selangor, on 29 December 2009.

A brainstorming session is a collaborative meeting where participants generate ideas and solutions to a problem. They will discuss, draw out, explain and write down ideas to solve problems or to create something new.

The 50th IEM Annual Dinner was held at the One World Hotel, located in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, on 18 April 2009.

One World Hotel, located at First Avenue, Lebuh Bandar Utama, Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, is a 5-star perfection with 452 rooms, Asian-infused dining and seamless access to shopping and attractions.

Officially opened in 2007, it was built as part of the broader development of the Bandar Utama township by the See Hoy Chan Group. Owned by Bandar Utama City Centre Sdn Bhd, with Tan Sri Dato' Teo Chiang Liang and Tan Sri Dato' Teo Chiang Hong serving as key directors/owners.

IEM Family Day for the year 2009 was held at Tasik Taman Jaya, Petaling Jaya, Selangor on 16 May 2009.

It provides an opportunity for families to reconnect and strengthen their bonds through shared experiences and quality time spent together.

Taman Jaya is located at Section 10 Petaling Jaya, right next to Amcorp Mall and a short walk from the IEM HQ building. This Taman was built in the early 1960s, the first recreational park in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

YJM was invited by World Wellness Sdn Bhd to conduct a health screening test for staff and customers of World Wellness Sdn Bhd located at PJS 5, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

World Wellness Sdn Bhd is a legitimate and government-recognised network marketing (MLM) company. It is 100% Bumiputera-owned. Established on 12 March 2003 by Prof. Dato’ Dr Nordin Darus, the founder and Executive Director of the Company. A total of 125 people attended the health screening test.

MALAYSIAN QUALIFICATION AGENCY

A health screening programme was conducted at the Malaysian Qualification Agency in Petaling Jaya from 30 September to 1 October 2015 and was attended by 192 staff of MQA.

The Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA; Malay: Agensi Kelayakan Malaysia) is a statutory body in Malaysia set up under the Malaysian Qualifications Act 2007 to accredit academic programmes provided by educational institutions providing postsecondary or higher education and facilitate the accreditation and articulation of qualifications.

The MQA also evaluates foreign qualifications and assesses it for equivalency with Malaysian secondary school and university preparatory qualifications.

Menara PKNS at Petaling Jaya was opened in 1987, was a state government building and is one of the prominent landmarks in the Petaling Jaya city centre. Located between Jalan Yong Shook Lin and Jalan Sultan, the building offers excellent accessibility for those commuting by public or private transport.
