JALAN BUKIT 7, KUALA LIPIS

Jalan Bukit 7 / Bukit Tujuh is the OG haunted road for people from Pahang to Kelantan.

It's not in KL. It's the old Federal Route 8 (FT8)—the 7 hills between Kuala Lipis, Pahang, and Merapoh/Gua Musang, Kelantan—before the new highway existed.

What is Bukit 7?
Imagine one road that has to climb 7 separate hills in the jungle, one after another — Bukit 1, Bukit 2... until Bukit 7. Steep, winding, secluded, no phone line, and totally dark at night

The old road was built during the British colonial era, around the 1880s, and used even during Japanese occupation. The new highway — Lebuhraya CSR / LTU — was built 2012-2018 precisely because the old road was too dangerous and had too many fatal accidents.

A lot of people know it because of a major crash in 2003 involving an express bus, plus constant lorrie accidents. That's why you see the big yellow sign now: AWAS! KAWASAN KEMALANGAN.

Why people say it's haunted?
It's the classic Malaysian formula — lonely + fog + accident history = creepy.

The stories that keep going viral on TikTok/Threads are almost the same pattern:

1. Got disturbed on the hills: One viral story from a Kelantan driver—he drove late, around 11:40pm-12am. At Bukit 3-4, he heard something thump on the roof, then a very strong foul smell like blood, and then his car couldn't brake properly going down Bukit. 7. Had to drop to gear 1 to survive. After that he stopped in Bandar Lipis to "get rid of negative aura" because his body became weak.

2. The woman in white: Most storytellers say don't stop for anyone at night. The common story is a woman in a wet white shirt standing at the curve, especially around Bukit 3 and Bukit 4. Truck drivers tell of seeing her, then the cabin becomes hot and smells of incense, and the truck loses power uphill.

3. Why it was abandoned: Locals themselves say “that old road is haunted and dangerous” — dark, dangerous, and ‘dimakan hantu’. That's why even locals avoid it after Maghrib and why the government built the CSR highway right next to it as a bypass. The old 7-hill road is now mostly empty.

One creator summarised it well: The aerial photo shows both roads side-by-side — the left is Jalan Bukit Tujuh Lama with the 7 hairpins, and the right is the modern CSR highway that most people use now.

If you want to go,
  • It's 2.5-3 hours to Kuala Lumpur. People from KL usually go via Karak Highway -> Mempaga -> Lipis -> Merapoh.
  • Daytime is actually beautiful — dense jungle, misty mountains, very Instagrammable.
  • Night driving is not recommended — not because of hantu, but because of no lights, sharp drops, and lorry still using the old road to avoid toll. If you do, go convoy and don't stop.
