MY PHOTO COLLECTION (PERLIS)

Perlis is the smallest state in Malaysia, with an area of 795 sq. km, but it has a wealth of natural, cultural, and historical treasures that rival those in the larger states. Lying at the northwestern tip of the Malaysian Peninsula and bordered by Thailand, Perlis is naturally green and verdant.

Kangar is the state capital, while Kuala Perlis is an important ferry terminal for those heading to Pulau Langkawi. Padang Besar is one of the major entry points for visitors from Thailand travelling by road or rail into Peninsular Malaysia.

KANGAR
Kangar is the state capital and the largest town in Perlis, the smallest state in Malaysia. Located near the northernmost tip of Peninsular Malaysia, it sits peacefully right by the Perlis River, just a few kilometres from the Thailand border. It holds the distinction of being the smallest state capital in Malaysia by population.

PADANG BESAR, PERLIS
Padang Besar, the northernmost major town in Malaysia. It's in Perlis, 35 km from Kangar and 57 km southwest of Hatyai, Thailand, right on the border with Songkhla, Thailand.
The town opposite the border is also called Padang Besar, but Malaysians call it "Pekan Siam".
This town attracts several thousand visitors every weekend/public holiday for duty-free. It is a "shopping heaven" and a popular destination for Malaysians. The Malaysian checkpoint is about 300 metres from the actual border.

KUALA PERLIS
Kuala Perlis is famous as the gateway to Langkawi Island via the sea route, apart from Kuala Kedah. It is favoured by travellers because it offers the shortest sea route from the mainland, taking only about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
The most famous dish in Kuala Perlis is Laksa Kuala Perlis, as well as Ikan Bakar (Grilled Fish). The Medan Ikan Bakar comes alive. Fresh seafood is weighed and grilled to order with spicy local sambal.

KOLEJ KOMUNITI ARAU
Arau is the royal town of Perlis; the town is the disembarkation point for visitors from Kuala Lumpur to Pulau Langkawi by train.
On 16 February 2017, we held a health screening programme at Arau Community College located at Jalan Tengku Budriah, Tambun Tulang, Arau, Perlis. The programme ran from 9 am to 2 pm. A total of 96 students and staff attended the health screening on that day.

KG. GUAR LEPAI, ARAU
Our Health Community Program is in Kampung Guar Lepai, located on Jalan Padang Nyu, Arau, Perlis. Only 53 residents attended the health screening test that day. Also present was my friend Musib Senawi (Skot 139/80 TLDM).
Kg. Guar Lepai is situated near Kampung Guar Gajah and is accessible via Jalan Padang Nyu. It is nearby the Universiti Teknologi MARA Arau and Arau KTM Station.

BUKIT CHABANG
A scenic view of Bukit Chabang along Jalan Semadong - Bukit Chabang, leading towards Padang Besar in Perlis. Famous for its dramatic twin peaks that slice sharply into the skyline. It is beloved by photographers, hikers and rock climbers alike.

WANG KELIAN
Wang Kelian is about 40 km from Kangar and 21.1 km from Padang Besar. The village has rows of stalls that offer a variety of goods, including clothing, kitchenware, gifts, and, of course, food. It was popular with tourists, as it was the location of a border market.
In March 2015, mass graves of people believed to be Rohingyas who were victims of human trafficking were discovered in the jungles north of Wang Kelian in the area called Wang Burma. Reports stated that as many as 139 graves and 29 illegal detention camps were discovered during operations carried out by the Malaysian Police.

MASJID ALWI
A major landmark in Kangar is the golden-domed mosque on Jalan Besar. Completed in 1933, its design is typical of that era.The former state mosque of Perlis.
It is named after Tuanku Syed Alwi ibni Almarhum Tuanku Syed Saffi Jamalullail, the Raja of Perlis at the time. It was officially declared a National Heritage Site in 1988.

HARUM MANIS MANGO
The state fruit of Perlis is the local variety of the aromatic and succulent fruit that is commonly enjoyed on its own or with sticky rice. There is a 1,000-acre Harum Manis Mango Plantation in Sungai Batu Pahat, Perlis.

GETTING THERE AND AROUND
There is no airport in Perlis; however, the North-South Expressway provides easy access from the rest of Malaysia and Thailand. Both the Malaysian and Thai rail companies serve the two Perlis stations at Arau and Padang Besar.

When I set foot in Perlis, it means I have completely explored every corner of my homeland, Malaysia. Perilous is one state that I have never been to before.

WELCOME TO PERLIS!!

IEM 52 ANNUAL DINNER
PUTRAJAYA MARRIOTT HOTEL
IOI RESORT, SEPANG, SELANGOR
16 APRIL 2011
The IEM 52nd Annual Dinner was held at the Putrajaya Marriott Hotel located at IOI Resort, Sepang, Selangor on 16 April 2011.
This is my last annual dinner with IEM after 12 years of working with IEM (1999 - 2011).

Receiving a Token of Appreciation from Ir. Cheong Thiam Fook, Chairman of the Mechanical Engineering Technical Division (METD) at Armada Hotel, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. This is my last meeting with METD after 12 years of handling meetings, courses, seminars, etc. with METD.

12 years with IEM from 1999 to 2011 was a transformative journey filled with growth, learning, and unforgettable experiences.

Throughout these years, I had the privilege of working alongside talented professionals who shared a passion for engineering and innovation. Each project and event contributed to my development, both personally and professionally, shaping my understanding of the engineering landscape in Malaysia.

The camaraderie built during countless meetings, seminars, and social gatherings created lasting friendships that extended beyond the workplace. I cherished the moments spent collaborating with colleagues, brainstorming solutions, and celebrating our achievements together.

As I reflect on my time with IEM, I am grateful for the opportunities to contribute to the engineering community and to witness the evolution of the profession. The memories created during events like the Annual Dinners and Family Days will always hold a special place in my heart.

Leaving IEM was bittersweet, but I carry forward the lessons learned and the relationships forged. I look forward to new adventures while cherishing the legacy of my time with IEM.

GOOD BYE, IEM.
