ABOUT SARAWAK

  1. Known as "Land of the Hornbills"
  2. The largest state in Malaysia, nearly as large as the whole Peninsular Malaysia.

  1. 1 Malaysia Cultural Village in Sibu is a small, mini-bungalow-sized cultural park that showcases the diverse ethnic cultures of the region, particularly the Malay, Iban, and Chinese communities. It features pavilions (pondoks) representing these cultures, a cafe, and a clean garden area. Visitors can relax, enjoy a tea break, have a BBQ, or explore the different cultural displays.
  2. Annah Rais Longhousea well-preserved Bidayuh (Land Dayak) longhouse located in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. It's a popular tourist destination, offering a glimpse into the traditional way of life of the Bidayuh people and their unique cultural practices.
  3. Astana Kuchinga historical palace and the official residence of the Governor of Sarawak. It was built in 1870 by Charles Brooke, the second White Rajah, as a wedding gift for his wife, Margaret. The palace is located on the north bank of the Sarawak River, opposite the Kuching Waterfront. While the Astana itself is not open to the public, its landscaped gardens are accessible, and it's a popular spot for taking photos from across the river.
  4. Ba'Kelalan Sarawak : A group of 9 villages at Maligan Highlands of Limbang, Sarawak. About 4 km from the border with Kalimantan, Indonesia and 150 km from nearest town of Lawas in Sarawak. The villagers belong to Lun Bawang tribes. 
  5. Bario Highland, Miria remote area in northeastern Sarawak, Malaysia, known for its stunning scenery, unique culture, and the indigenous Kelabit tribe. It's located in the Baram area of Miri Division, close to the Indonesian border. The area is famous for its Bario rice, a unique and highly sought-after variety, as well as its traditional Kelabit salt and pineapple.

The historical Oil Well No. 1, known as the Grand Old Lady, is situated on top of Canada Hill. It was here that oil was first struck by Sarawak Shell in 1910. Nowadays, the site also houses a very well designed and interesting Petroleum Museum, which traces the history and technological development of the oil and gas industries in Malaysia.

  12. Chinese History Museum : in Kuching, Sarawak, is located at the Kuching Waterfront in a historic building originally constructed in 1912. It was initially used as a court by the Chinese community before becoming the Sarawak Chinese Chamber of Commerce. In 1993, it was transformed into the Chinese History Museum, showcase the history and contributions of the Chinese community in Sarawak.

Originally designed to guard Kuching from pirates, it served as a defense fort, armoury, prison, and later as a Police Museum. It's part of a 170 million-year-old Jurassic limestone formation, making it older than the Mulu and Niah Caves. The cave is known for its impressive show cave features, including a large cavernous chamber, unique rock formations, and historical significance.

  23. Gunung Mulu  : a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located in Miri, Sarawak. The Mulu Caves is one of the world's most elaborate cave passages.The Deer Cave is one of the world's largest cave passages, while Clear Water Caves is the longest cave in Southeast Asia

  25. Islamic Heritage Museum Sarawak : Originally constructed as the James Brooke Malay College School building. It was later changed to the Sarawak Malay Madrasa in 1930 and later converted to Islamic Heritage Museum on 22 May 1992.
  26. Jambatan Darul Hanais an iconic pedestrian bridge in Kuching, Sarawak, spanning the Sarawak River. Opened in 2017, it serves as a prominent landmark connecting the Kuching Waterfront on the south bank with the north bank, where the Astana and the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly building are located.
  27. Jong Crocodile Farm & Zooa privately-run crocodile farm and zoo in Siburan, Kuching Division, Sarawak, Malaysia. It was originally started by Yong Kian Sen when he started to collect crocodiles in 1963. In 1979, his family purchased 1 hectare of land in Siburan for their crocodile farm.
  28. Kalimantan View Point : is a popular tourist destination in Sarawak, Malaysia, offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding lush landscapes and forests. It's a great spot for photography, nature appreciation, and enjoying fresh air. The viewpoint is located near the Sarawak-Kalimantan border and is part of the Borneo Highlands Resort.
  29. Kampung Boyan - Gersik (Malay Village)Kampong Boyan Kuching It is thought that the original settlers of these 2 kampongs were immigrants from Gersik and Surabaya. Located on the north bank of the Sarawak River, close to Kuching city centre.
  30. Kanowit Memorial  : Located at Kanowit, Sarawak > built in the mouth of Kanowit River at the bank of Rejang River. The monument was built to honour the sacrifies of local-born heroes at Fort Emma Square where 18 Kanowit-born policeman, Armed Forces, Border Scouts and Sarawak Rangers lost their lives in the line of duty
  31. Kelabit Highlands : A mountain range in the northernmost part of Sarawak in the Miri Division. It hosts the Bario Villages, this is the Kelabit territory, one of the minority Orang Ulu tribes in Sarawak. 
  32. Komplek Kubah Ria: Kubah Ria Complex opened for business in August 2010 and is now becoming one of the most visited dining destination in Kuching City. The Complex comprise of 44 food stalls and 47 retail outlets. This new landmark is located along jalan Matang at Petra Jaya,fronting the Sarawak River.
  33. Kuching Civic Centre: also known as Dewan Suarah Kuching, is a prominent landmark in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, known for its futuristic umbrella-shaped tower. It was officially opened on August 1, 1988, and was intended to be a venue for recreational activities, events, and cultural performances. The tower offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the city and surrounding areas.
  34. Kuching General Post Office: at Kuching, Sarawak > with its Roman Style Architecture with its row of Corinthian columns in its facade, reputed to be the only of its kind in the region. 
  35. Kuching Orchid Park : also known as Sarawak Orchid Garden, is a popular attraction in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, showcasing a wide variety of orchids, including native Bornean species. It features both a nursery and a display area with around 75,000 orchid plants from 65 genera.   37. Kuching Wetlands National Park : a RAMSAR site, is a 6,610-hectare mangrove ecosystem located about 30km from Kuching, Sarawak. It's known for its rich biodiversity, including proboscis monkeys, estuarine crocodiles, and various fish and prawn species. The park is a vital breeding and nursery ground for many commercially important species.
  38. Lambir Hill National Park  : Located in Miri, Sarawak. Biologist have recorded 237 species of birds, 64 species of mammals, 46 species of reptiles and 20 species of frogs in this park. 
  39. Lamin Dana Cultural Boutique Lodge: located in Telian Tengah, Kampung Tradisi, Mukah, Sarawak. Sharing the Melanau heritage and cultural intelligence with the world, combination visitor's lodge and cultural centre. 
  40. Lau King Howe Hospital Memorial Museum : The first and only medical museum in Malaysia. The hospital was built in 1936 by Mr Lau King Howe as the only hospital in Sibu, Sarawak. The museum was officially opened on 3 August 1996.

Longhouse tours - Batang Ai, Lemanak, SkrangBatang Ai and Lemanak in Sarawak, Malaysia, are known for their Iban longhouses and cultural experiences, as well as the Batang Ai National Park, a large area of rainforest with an artificial lake formed by a hydroelectric dam.   46. Masjid Terapung Sarawakofficially known as Masjid India Kuching, is a modern mosque known for its unique design that appears to float on the Sarawak River.   55. Nanga Gaat Memorial : The Monument at Kapit, Sarawak, overlooking the confluence of the Sungai Gaat and Batang Baleh was erected in 1965 by local residents and trders from Kapit, in memory of those members of the British Security Forces who lost their lives while serving at Nanga Gaat.

  74. Taman Negara Bako : A National Park in Kuching, Sarawak. Established in 1957, it is the oldest National park in Sarawak. It covers an area of 27.27 sq km at the tip of the Muara Tebas peninsula. 
  75. Taman Negara Kubah : A National Park in Kuching, Sarawak, located 20 km from the city centre. Wild animals are hidden deep in the rainforest here. The park is dominated by Mount Serapi, which rises to 911 meters above sea level. 
  76. Taman Negara Niah : Located within Miri, Sarawak, the site of the Niah Caves which are an archaelogical site, where human from 40,000 years ago have been found. This is the oldest recorded human settlement in East Malaysia. 
  77. Taman Negara Santubong: located near Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, is known for its diverse ecosystems and the imposing Mount Santubong. The park offers various activities, including hiking, wildlife spotting, and exploring its beaches and rainforests.   79. Taman Tumbinaalso known as Tumbina Zoo, is a combined botanical and zoological garden in Bintulu, Sarawak, Malaysia. It's known for its diverse collection of Bornean flora and fauna and serves as a recreational and educational attraction. The park's name, Tumbina, is derived from the Malay words "Tumbuhan" (plants) and "Binatang" (animals).
  80. Taman Sahabat Kucing:  refers to two places: Taman Sahabat Kuching and Taman Kucing MADANI. Taman Sahabat Kuching is a park that symbolizes Malaysia-China friendship, offering green spaces and unique architecture. Taman Kucing MADANI is a sanctuary for stray cats, with the aim of caring for their welfare and health.

  82. Tanjung Datu National Park: Located in Kuching, Sarawak, the smallest of Sarawak's National Park but is also one of the most beautiful.
