ABOUT PERAK

  1. About 205 km from Kuala Lumpur.
  2. One of the most developed areas in the northern region. 
  3. The state capital is Ipoh while the Royal Town in Kuala Kangsar.

INTERESTING FACTS:

  1. Agacia Town Kampar: once dubbed the country's very own 'Disneyland', now left largely forgotten and at risk of being abandoned. It houses rows of 57 pastel-coloured buildings with brick walls and European-styled doors and windows, each havinga unique facade. 
  2. Bagan Datuk Waterfront :  has transformed the town of Bagan Datuk, once dubbed a “cowboy town”, into an attractive tourist destination, one of the popular spots among dometic tourists, especially on weekends. 
  3. Batu Hampar: place names in Perak that refer to several different locations. There is a village called Kampung Batu Hampar located in Gerik, and another in Beruas. In addition, there is also Sekolah Kebangsaan Batu Hampar at Mile 26 of the Taiping-Beruas Road. There is also Jalan Seputeh-Batu Hampar (Federal Route 73) which connects Batu Hampar with Seputeh. In addition, there is Air Terjun Batu Hampar in Padang Rengas which is a picnic location.
  4. Beting Beras Basah: Located in Kuala Sungai Perak, Hilir Perak District. According to history, this is where the first Sultan of Perak set off to enter the state of Perak.
  5. Birch Memorial Clock Tower: Located at Jalan Dato' Sagor at Ipoh, Perak > the clock tower was erected in memory of Perak first British Resident, J.W.W. Birch who was assassinated at Pasir Salak in 1875
  6. Bukit Larut : at Taiping, Perak > formerly known as Maxwell Hill, the oldest Hill Resort in the country. Credited as the wettest place in Malaysia www.bukitlarut.com
  7. Bukit Merah - Lake Town Resort & Orang Utan Island: boasts a unique five-acre rehabilitation and conservation facility that serves as a breeding sanctuary as well as research and education centre with the goal of better understaning the endangered species. 
  8. Burmese Pool, Taipinga natural rock pool formed by the Batu Tegoh River, fed by a waterfall. Locally known as Batu Hampar, it's a popular spot for swimming, picnics, and enjoying the natural scenery. The pool gets its name from the Burma Rifle Regiment soldiers who discovered it in the 1920s.
  9. Clock Tower (Ipoh) : at Ipoh, Perak > erected in 1917 as a memorial of J.W.W. Birch the first British Resident of Perak who was assassinated by a group of Malay Chietain in Pasir Salak in 1875
  10. Darul Ridzuan Museum: located at Jalan Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab, Ipoh, Perak > trace the history and development of Ipoh town, include the on-site underground air raid shelter that was built during World War II. 
  11. Dr. Seenivasagam Recreational Park: Ipoh, Perak > built in 1950s and is one of the largest urban parks in Ipoh. It has become favourite among locals. It is named af Dr. Seenivasagam, a prominent politician. 
  12. FELDA Residence Hot Springs, Sungai Klah: just 12 km from Sungkai, Perak at Sungai Klah is truly a haven of tranquility. Nestled amidst 6.5 hectares of vendant forest patches, cool mountain streams and rivers, the resort provide a refreshing respite from city life. 
  13. First Rubber Tree: The first rubber tree planted in Malaya was at Kuala Kangsar, by the English botanist Henry Nicholas Ridley, director of Singapore Botanic Gardens in 1877. 
  14. Gaharu Tea Valley: an Agro-tourism tea plantation in  Gopeng, Perak > the first organic sustainable Gaharu plantation in Malaysia, there are over 20,0000 Agarwood trees. 
  15. Galeri Sultan Azlan Shah: was once a Royal Palace.Completed in 1903, it was first concrete palace to be built in Perak. The Perak State Government approved the construction of the gallery on 13 June 2001. Located at Bukit Chandan, Kuala Kangsar, Perak.

  19. Gunung Lang Recreational Park: Located at Jalan Kuala Kangsar, 5 km from Ipoh, Perak > comprises s stretch of linestone hills right in centre of the Kinta Valley. Park attraction include Boating Lake, mini zoom model village houses and man made waterfall. 
  20. Hutan Lipur Kuala Woh: located in the Tapah district of Perak - the basic facilities available here are an open hall, chalets, rest huts, suspension bridge, toilets, camping sites an caravan sites. 
  21. Ipoh Heritage Trail: the walk takes you through all the old colonial buildings including the Ipoh Railway Station, General Post Office, High Court, Standard Chartered Bank etc.. the whole journey spend at least 1-2 hours of walking and navigating these points of interest.

  24. Istana Billah: a mansion originally owned by a relative of the Mandailing Dynasty, Raja Billah. The construction of this palace was completed in 1896, the largest building in Pekan Papan, Perak. 
  25. Istana Bukit Chandan: the Perak Sultanate's palaces at Kuala Kangsar, particularly Istana Iskandariah and Istana Kenangan. It's a focal point of the royal ambience in Kuala Kangsar and houses several royal residences and museums.
  26. Jambatan Sultan Abdul Jalil Shah: connect the town of Kuala Kangsar with the village of Sayong. Opened by Sultan Azlan Shah in June 2002. Before this bridge was built, residents used miner boats to cross the Perak River. 
  27. Jambatan Victoria: a railway bridge located in Enggor, Kuala Kangsar, Perak. This bridge spanning the Perak River was built in 1897, and is one of the oldest railway bridges in Malaysia. The Engineers responsible for the construction of this bridge were G.W.Fryer, Divisional Engineer and C.R.Hanson
  28. Jeti Bagan Sungai Burong : a jetty located in Bagan Sungai Burong, a fishing village located in Bagan Datoh, Perak. This jetty is a focus for visitors who want to enjoy the beauty of nature and is also an interesting place for photography activities.
  29. Kampar River Whitewater Rafting, Gopeng: provides all kinds of rafting excitement with more than 14 rapids.
  30. Kampung Orang Asli: Orang Asli settlements are found throughout the state of Perak. There are several villages inhabited by various Orang Asli tribes such as Semai, Temiar, Kentaq and Lanoh. These villages offer a unique experience to understand the culture and way of life of the Orang Asli community.
  31. Kampung Baru Coldstream: located in Bidor, Perak - one of those New Village built during the Malaysian Emergency (1948 - 1960) to protect the villagers from the Communist Terrorists. It is built by th 2nd Battalion of the Coldstream Guard (British Army) who were stationed in Perak during the Emergency. 
  32. Kek Look Tong Temple: tuck deep within the residential area of Gunung Rapat about 15 minutes from Ipoh, Perak > this temple has been used as a place of worship since 1920. 
  33. Kellie's Castle: located at Batu Gajah,Perak > an unfinished mansion commissioned by William Kellie Smith an English rubber planter. Construction began in 1915, came to an abrupt halt with Kellie's sudden death in 1926. Shrouded in mystery, the castle is now open to public to visit.  
  34. King Edward VII School : a premier secondary school, locaed on Jalan Muzium in Taiping, Perak. It is one of the oldest school in Malaysia, founded in 1883. 
  35. Kinta Riverfronta mixed development project located in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia, featuring a hotel and serviced apartments.   39. Kuala Kangsar District Office : the home of the last surviving rubber tree from the original batch brought by Englishman H.N. Ridley from London's Kew Garden in 1877.
  40. Labu Sayong: famous in Kuala Kangsar, a water pitcher from earthenware clay, also known as Labu Picit. This gourd-shaped carafe is used to keep water cool. 
  41. Lata Iskandar Waterfall : a stunning waterfall stop along the Tapah-Cameron Highlands route.  the waterfall cascades over tiers before flowing into a small pool below from the last drop at 25 meters high.
  42. Lata Kijang Waterfall: located 18 km from Tapah, Perak > one of Malaysia's tallest waterfall cascading 850m down a steep stretch  of rocky slopes.

  44. Lenggong Archaelogical Museum & Gallery: located at Kota Tampan, Lenggong, Perak >the UNESCO listed Archaelogical Heritage, is home to key archaelogical finds spanning almost 2 millions years.   46. Lumut Naval BaseA Royal Malaysian Navy base in Lumut, Perak. It has served as the Royal Malaysian Navy's headquarters since 9 September 1984, replacing Woodlands Naval Base in Singapore.
  47. Lumut Waterfront Esplanade: A very spacious park for recreation, rest and also transit before or after returning from Pangkor Island, close to the Jetty to Pangkor Island. Various facilities are provided such as playgrounds, public toilets, waqf, seating and so on.

Malayan First Rubber Tree : located at Kuala Kangsar, Perak - in 1877 English Botanist Henry Nicolas Ridley brought a total of 22 Rubber seedlings from the Kew Gardens in England to Botanic Gardens in Singapore. Off the 22 seedlings, nine found their way to Kuala Kangsar. Of those 9 seedlings, one still stands today.

  50. Masjid Muhammadiah: also known as the Ipoh Chinese Mosque, is located in Taman Tasek Jaya, Ipoh, Perak. It is famous for its unique Chinese architectural design, making it the first mosque in Malaysia to feature 100% Chinese architectural elements. This mosque was officiated by the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, on 18 July 2014.
  51. Masjid Ubudiah : located at Kuala Kangsar, Perak > opened in 1917, one of the most beautiful mosque in the country.

  53. Menara Condong Teluk IntanThe Malaysian equivalent of the Leaving Tower of Pisa in Italy. It was built under contractor Leong Choon Chong in 1885 but was claimed by Briton Neol Danison, and then by the Japanese during their occupation of Malaya in 1941.
  54. Muzium Beruas: a museum in Beruas, Perak - its goal is to collect history and artifacts related to the lost Kingdom of Gangga Negara and the Kingdom of Beruas. '
  55. Muzium Darul Ridzuan: the museum building was originally constructed in 1926 as a house for a wealthy tin miner name Foo Choong Kit.It was sold to the Perak Government in 1950 to house the administrative center of the Department of Works. It was then opened as a museum in 1992. 
  56. Muzium Pendidikan Nasional UPSI: a museum that displays the history of the development of education in Malaysia, especially at the Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) which was formerly known as the Sultan Idris Training College (SITC). The museum is located in a historic building designed in a colonial style and houses 21 permanent galleries, the Za'ba House, the Art Gallery, and the Heritage Conservation Centre.
  57. Muzium Perak: Built in 1883, the Perak Museum located along Jalan Muzium, Taiping, Perak is the oldest Museum in Malaysia, about 85 km from Ipoh, Perak. 
  58. Pantai Ban Pecah: one of the most popular places in Kuala Kurau and Tanjung Piandang, Perak. Its shoreline features rocky embankments, which were originally built as sea defenses.

  80. Taman Alam Kinta: established after Royal Belum State Park and Pulau Sembilan State Park, Kinta Alam State Park is a habitat and stopover location for various types of birds. There are 2 categories of birds found in Kinta Alam State, namely resident birds and migratory birds. 
  81. Tanjung Tualang Tin Dredge No. 5: former tin mining dredge in Batu Gajah, Perak. It was built in England in 1938 by F.W. Payne & Son. It was used for 44 years until 1982 when Malaysian tin industries declined due to the falling world's tin price. 
  82. Tasik Banding : also known as Temenggor Lake, is a man-made lake in Perak, Malaysia, formed by the Temenggor Dam. It's located in the Belum-Temengor forest complex, one of the oldest rainforests in the world. The lake is known for its rich biodiversity, including various fish species like the Kelah, Toman, and Baung, as well as the rare freshwater Stingray. It also features Pulau Banding, a man-made island created to thwart communist attacks during the dam's construction.
