The USS Cyclops departed Brazil in February 1918, carrying 10,000 tons of manganese ore, an important material for the war effort. After stopping in Barbados to refuel, the ship headed to the port of Baltimore, United States. But shortly after leaving Barbados, Cyclops strangely disappeared without sending an emergency signal or any information about the incident. Nor were any remains or signs of the ship found in the sea.
The disappearance of the USS Cyclops has fueled many theories about the Bermuda Triangle. Some opinions suggest that the ship may have sunk due to too much cargo or encountered a sudden storm. However, finding no trace of the ship or crew makes these explanations difficult to convince. The Bermuda Triangle is famous for unusual magnetic phenomena that can disrupt compasses and navigation equipment. Some researchers believe the USS Cyclops lost its way and was swept into an unknown sea. At the time, World War I was in full swing and some have suggested that Cyclops may have been attacked by a German submarine. However, no evidence has been found to prove this.
A bolder hypothesis is that the ship passed through a “time vortex” or “dimensional gate,” leading to its disappearance from reality. This theory, although implausible, continues to capture the public’s imagination.
The disappearance of the USS Cyclops remains one of the world’s greatest maritime mysteries. The ship’s disappearance, recorded in U.S. Navy records as “unknown cause,” helped cement the Bermuda Triangle’s mystical reputation.
Although more than a century has passed, this incident still raises many unanswered questions. Is it possible that Cyclops has sunk deep into the ocean that we humans can’t reach yet? Or is there a force that hides the truth? The answer may still remain in the dark, evoking humanity’s infinite curiosity about the Bermuda Triangle.
