TRAVEL INFO: NEVSEHIR, TURKEY

Nevsehir is a city in the Central Anatolia Region of Turkey. It is the primary administrative and transit hub for the world-famous historical region of Cappadocia.

PASSABAG VALLEY
Passabag Valley features Cappadocia's most striking multi-headed mushroom-shaped fairy chimneys. These unique rock formations were sculpted over millions of years as wind and water eroded soft volcanic tuff rock underneath harder, protective basalt caps.

Ancient Rock-Cut Dwellings: It features multi-level cave dwellings, historic stone facades, and storage rooms directly carved into the volcanic tuff hillsides, a signature architectural style of the Cappadocia region.

The ghost town – a fully thriving old village until the mid-20th century. It was completely evacuated and left abandoned when landslides and collapsing rock structures forced residents to relocate to the modern town of Gore nearby.

S.O.S. Cave Hotel is located in the historic town of Gerome, the tourism heart of the Nevsehir Province.

GEROME OPEN AIR MUSEUM
A massive monastic complex of rock-cut churches, chapels and living quarters located in Cappadocia, Turkey.
Between the 4th and 13th centuries CE, the site served as an important Byzantine monastic settlement. Christian monks carved an entire network of churches, dining halls and dwellings directly out of the soft volcanic stone.
It was one of the very first locations in Turkey to be designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985, recognised for both its natural landscape and historic rock architecture.

KAYMAKLI UNDERGROUND CITY
Alongside Derinkuyu is one of the most famous and well-preserved subterranean sites in the Nevsehir Province of Cappadocia, Turkey.
Kaymakli was primarily constructed by early Christians during the Byzantine era (around the 6th-7th centuries) as a massive subterranean hiding place to escape Arab-Byzantine wars and religious persecution.
The underground city consists of eight subterranean levels, though only the first four levels are currently excavated and open to the public. At its peak, it could house an estimated 3,500 people simultaneously.

Avrasya Hotel: a well-established 4-star property located along the Kizilirmak River, 1 km downtown Avanos, within the Nevsehir/Cappadocia region of Turkey.
Operating since 1995, the hotel was built to accommodate the massive wave of cultural tourism, professional seminars and international tour groups arriving in Cappadocia.

Gerome Kaya Hotel - a prominent hotel located in the heart of Gerome, Cappadocia, Turkey. The hotel is highly regarded as one of the very first rock-cut stone boutique hotels. Just a short walk or drive away from the Gerome Open Air Museum.

Uchisar Kaya Hotel – located in the historic town of Uchisar within the Cappadocia. Opened in 1968, the hotel holds the distinction of being the very first boutique hotel in the world to be carved entirely out of a natural rock face, initiating the region's famous cave tourism.

Nevsehir today is a vibrant blend of history and modernity, serving as a gateway to the enchanting landscapes of Cappadocia. The city has embraced its rich cultural heritage while also adapting to the needs of contemporary travellers.

Visitors can explore the bustling markets, where local artisans showcase their crafts, from traditional pottery to intricate carpets. The culinary scene is equally enticing, with restaurants offering delicious local dishes, such as testi kebab and manti, that reflect the region's flavours.

In addition to its historical sites, Nevsehir is also known for its warm hospitality. Hotels and accommodations range from luxurious cave hotels to charming boutique stays, ensuring that every traveller finds a comfortable place to rest after a day of exploration.

Outdoor enthusiasts can take advantage of the stunning natural surroundings, with opportunities for hiking, hot air ballooning, and photography amidst the fairy chimneys and unique rock formations that define the Cappadocia landscape.

Overall, Nevsehir today is a dynamic destination that beautifully marries its ancient past with the vibrancy of modern life, making it a must-visit for anyone exploring Turkey.
