MY TRAVEL TO KLUANG, JOHOR

The Kluang name derives from the Malay word 'bat', which means a big bat or fruit bat.

Kluang is located in the heart of Johor State, surrounded by all regions, except Muar. The city was founded in 1915 as the administrative capital of central Johor by the British.

The first time I set foot in Kluang town was on 1 November 2008 when coordinating a visit for members of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia to Zenxin Organic Park in Jalan Batu Pahat, Kluang, Johor.

As Malaysia’s leading producer, distributor and retailer of organic produce, and also a member of the International Federation of Organic Farm Movements (IFOAM), ZENXIN has successfully created a completely certified organic production chain comprising a compost factory, organic farms and an organic wholesaler certified by the National Association for Sustainable Agriculture Australia (NASAA).

ZENXIN is also certified organic under myOrganic, as accredited by the Department of Agriculture, Malaysia.

I had the opportunity to visit Kluang City while working with the Malaysian Heart Foundation.

Among the health programmes taking place in Kluang are the following:

A total of 94 people underwent health screening tests throughout the day of the campaign.

My friends and I stayed at Mega 68 Hotel in Kluang, Johor, during a programme at SJK (Chinese) Kahang, Johor, on 21 December 2014.

It is worth it to visit Kluang because Kluang is well known for its outdoor recreation and farms. The town is surrounded by farming districts, some of which have established eco-resorts and tours. Among the popular are Zenxin Organises Farm, which I had the opportunity to visit in 2008.

Kluang Rail Coffee is a beloved establishment that has become synonymous with the town's rich coffee culture. Established in the early 1930s, this iconic café is located near the Kluang railway station, making it a popular stop for both locals and travellers alike.

The café is renowned for its traditional Malaysian coffee, which is brewed using a unique method that involves roasting the beans over an open flame. This gives the coffee a distinct flavour that is both aromatic and robust. Visitors can enjoy a variety of beverages, including the classic Kopi O, which is a strong black coffee, and the creamy Kopi Tarik, a frothy milk coffee that is a favourite among many.

In addition to its coffee, Kluang Railcoffee offers a selection of local snacks and dishes, such as kaya toast, soft-boiled eggs, and nasi lemak. The cosy atmosphere, adorned with vintage decor, provides a nostalgic charm that invites patrons to relax and savour their meals.

Whether you're a coffee enthusiast or simply looking to experience a piece of Kluang's heritage, Kluang Railcoffee is a must-visit destination that captures the essence of the town's culinary delights.
