  1. Abbas Ibn Firnas : a Muslim poet, astronomer,musician and engineer > made several attempts to construct a flying machine in 852 AD, a thousand years before the Wright brothers. 
  2. Abdul Aziz Ibn Saud (1875 - 1953) : Founder of the first King of Saudi Arabia > he unified his territories under the name of Saudi Arabia in 1932
  3. Abdul Al-Rahman ibn Abd Al-Ghafiqi : Led the Andalusian Muslim forces against the Franks led by Charles Martel in 732. 
  4. Abel Janszoon Tasman (1603 - `659): a Dutch explorer, made the first planned voyages to Australia from 1642 to 1644. Tasmania was named in honour of him. 
  5. Abraham Darby : built the world's first iron bridge spans a gorge through which the River Severn flows near Coalbrookdale in Shropshire in 1779. 
  6. Abraham Lincoln(1809 - 1865) : 16th President of the United States (1861 - 1865) - he was assassinated on 15 April 1865. 
  7. Abu al-Fath Abd al-Rahman Mansour al-Khazini : His theories have been still calculated in the fields of kinetics at schools and universities up till now. 
  8. Abu Abdullah al-Battani : Famous astronomer, mathematician and astrologer. He was the first to subtitute the practice of the Greek chords and the first to cultivate the concept of contangent.
  9. Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Zakariya Al-Razi:  famous physician and scientist in the Middle Ages. He stressed empirical observation and clinical medicine and was unrivaled as a diagnostician. He also wrote a treatise on hygiene in hospitals. 
  10. Abu Rayhan Al-Biruni : established trigonometri as a distinct branch of Mathematics. 
  11. Abu Wafa Muhammad al-Buzanji: a great mathematician and astronomer in Baghdad. A substantial part of today's trigonometry can be copied back to him. The first person to show the generality of the sine theorem relative to spherical triangles.His encyclopedia al-Tasrif li man ajaz an-il-talif, which enclosed 30 segments of surgical facts and drawings of 200 surgical tools, maximum of which he designed himself.

  16. Akira Kurosawa (1910 - 1998) : Japanese filmmaker who created 30 films of his own. His film "Rashomon" in 1950 became the first Japanese movie to achieve success in the West. 
  17. Al Hassan Ibnu al-Haitham : "Father of Modern Optics" , through his book of Optics (Kitab al-Manazir), his ideas influenced the European scholars in the 17th century.  
  18. Al-Idrisi : a Muslim scholar in Sicilian court, produced very accurate maps including world map in 1166. 
  19. Al-Muqdishi : the first geographer to produce accurate maps in color
  20. Alan Mathison Turing (1912 - 1954) : English mathematician, computer scientist > considered to be the Father of Theoretical Computer Science. Committed suicide on 7 June 1954 by poisoning. 
  21. Albert Einstein(1879 - 1955) : German-born theoretical physicist who is best known for developing the Theory of Relativity. Received 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics. 
  22. Albert Fish (1870 - 1936) : American serial killer, committed at least 3 child murders between 1924 - 1928. He was executed by eletrocution on 16 January 1936. 
  23. Albert Henry De Salvo (1931 - 1973) : American murderer and rapist > active in Boston, known as "Boston Strangler". He murdered 13 women in Boston between 1962-64.Imprisoned until his death in 1973. 
  24. Alec Guiness (Sir)  (1914 - 2000) : born Alec Guiness de Cuffe > English actor, among his famous film is "Bridge on the River Kwai" (1957) and "A Passage to India" in 1984. 
  25. Alec Issigonis (Sir) : designed the Mini car, came onto the market in 1959. 
  26. Alessandro Volta (1745 - 1827) : Italian phycicist and pioneer of Electrical science. The electrical term 'Volt' comes from his name. 
  27. Alexander Fleming : Scottish physician > discovered penicilin, antibiotic substance. 
  28. Alexander Graham Bell : invented telephone on 10 March 1876
  29. Alexander-Gustave Eiffel : The French engineer who built the Eiffel Tower in Paris in 1889. 
  30. Alexander The Great: King of Macedonian & conqueror of the Persian Empire. 
  31. Alexandre Gustave Eiffel (1832 - 1923) : French Civil Engineer, best known for the world-famous Eiffel Tower. 
  32. Alfred Hitchcock (1899 - 1980) : full name Sir Alfred Joseph Hitchcock > English film Director - regarded as one of the most influential figures in the history of cinema.
  33. Ali Ibnu Nafi : came from Iraq to Cordoba in the 9th century and brought with him the concept of the three-course meal — soup, followed by fish or meat, then fruit and nuts. He also introduced crystal glasses.
  34. Alfred Bernhard Nobel (1833 - 1896) : best known for the varous prizes that bear his name - "The Nobel Prize winner". He was also the inventor of dynamite in 1867. 
  35. Alice Wells: the first policewoman who worked for the Los Angeles Police Drpartment in 1910. 
  36. Alois Brunner: responsible for the deaths of thousands of Jews in Czechoslovakia and Greece during WW2 .
  37. Alphonse Gabriel Capone @ Al Capone: American Gangser (1899 - 1947) > known by his nickname "Scarface" , one of the most notorious gangster of the 20th century.
  38. Ambrogio Calepino : the first to produced the first known dictionary which was published in 1502 in Italy. 
  39. Amelia Mary Earhart (1897 - 1939) : American aviation pioneer > she dissapeared over the Pacific Ocean on 2 July 1937 together with Fred Noonan, declared death January 5, 1939. 
  40. Amerigo Vespucci (1454 - 1512): after whom America is named, explored the South American coast from 1500 to 1502.
  41. Amy Johnson (1903 - 1941): the most famous woman who become the first woman to fly alone to Australia in 1930. In 1931 she made the first flight to Moscow in one day. In 1941 her plane dissapeared over the Thames estuary and she was presumed dead. 
  42. Anastasia @ Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna of Russia (1901 - 1918) : the youngest daughter of Tsar Nicholass II, the last Emperor of Russia. She was murderd with her family by Bolsheviks on 17 July 1918, however, the location of her burial was unknown. 
  43. Andre Maginot : French Minister of War who built the line of fortifications along the French border with Luxembourg and Switzerland between 1929 and 1934. The line was know as Maginot Line
  44. Andre-Marie Ampere: French physicist > established the basis for the study of electromagnetism. The unit of electric current, usually abbreviated to 'Amp" was named after him
  45. Anne Bonny & Mary Read : the two most famous female pirates in the 17th century. 
  46. Anthony Hopkins (born 1937) : a Welsh Actor, his full name is Sir Philip Anthony Hopkins- He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1993.
  47. Antoine Henri Becquerel (1852-1908) : a French physicist > shared the 1903 Nobel Prize in Physics with Pierre Curie and Marie Curie
  48. Anton Adriaan Mussert (1894 - 1946) : a Dutch politician who co-founded the National Socialist Movement in the Netherlands. He was convicted of treason and was executed in 1946. 
  49. Antonio Pigafetta (1491 - 1531) : Venetian explorer, he joined the Spanish expedition led by Ferdinand Magellan
  50. Anwar Sadat (1918 - 1981) : 3rd President of Egypt from 1970 until 1981.Prime Minister of Egypt from 1980 until 1981. 
  51. Archimedes:  (287-212 BC) > famous Greek mathematician. He was killed by the Roman soldier when the city was captured. 
  52. Aribert Heim (Dr.): Director of Concentration Camp at Mauthausen, Austria during WW2 .
  53. Aristarchus of Samos (310 - 230 BC) - ancient Greek astronomer > the first in Greece to state that the earth revolves around the sun.
  54. Aristotle: (384-322 BC) - famous Greek philosopher and scientist. He was a tutor to Alexander the Great,wrote more that 400 books, covering every branch of learning. 
  55. Aristotle Socrates Onassis (1906 - 1975) : one of the world's richest and most famous men. 
  56. Arthur Conan Doyle  (1859 - 1930) : Full name is Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle > creator of Sherlock Holmes in 1887
  57. Arthur Neville Chamberlain :(1869 - 1940)  > Prime Minister of UK (1937 - 1940). He was remembered for his attempts to placate Hitler immediately before WW2.
  58. Arthur Whitten Brown (Sir): in June 1919 he and Captain John Alcock made the first ever crossing the Atlantic Ocean by aeroplane

  60. Ashurbanipal : the King of Syria around 650 BC who had a library of 20,000 clay table bookd on all sorts of subjects. 
  61. Attila: King of the Hun - a nomadic central Asian tribe that settled near the Danube. Attila's Kingdom extended from the Rhine to the frontiers of China. 
  62. Augustus a.k.a Octavian: (27 BC - AD 14) Roman Emperor - founder of the Roman Empire. 
  63. Benazir Bhutto: Pakistani Stateswoman > the first woman leader of Muslim country

  68. Bertrand Russell (1872 - 1970) : full name Bertrand Arthur William Russell, 3rd Earl Russell> a British philosopher, logician , mathematician and public intellectual. 
  69. Bette Davis (1908-1989) : Full name Ruth Elizabeth "Bette" Davis> American actress - one of the greatest actresses in Hollywood history.

  71. Bill Gates: Full name is William Henry Gates III  > American businessman and philanthropist - a pioneer of the microcomputer revolution of the 1970s and 1980s and co-founder of Microsoft

  73. Billy The Kid @ Henry McCarty @ William H. Bonney (1859 - 1881) : American outlaw and gunfighter, reputed to have carried out 11 murders. He was shot dead by Sheriff Pat Garrett
  74. Bing Crosby (1904-1977): real name Harry Lillis "Bing" Crosby Jr - American Singer and actor. He made over 70 feature films and recorded more than 1,600 songs. 
  75. Bjorn Borg: famous Swedish tennis player > won the French Open Championship in 1974, 1975, 1978 and 1979. The only man to have won the WImbledon Singles title five years running (1876-80). 
  76. Blanche Barrow (1911 - 1988) : wife of Buck Barrow, the brother of Clyde Barrow. She was present at the shootout which resulted in the Barrow Gang becoming nationally recognised fugitives. She spend only four months with the gang. 
  77. Boadicea: the Queen of Iceni tribe in Britain, the fighting queen who defied the might of the Roman Empires when the Roman invaded Britain in 43BC.
  78. Bob Hope (1903 - 2003) : Born Leslie Townes "Bob" Hope > English-born American comedian, actor, entertainer and producer. He appeared in more than 70 short and feature films. 
  79. Bob Marley @ Robert Nesta Marley (1945 - 1981) : Jamaican Singer, songwriter and guitarist - considered one of the pioneers of reggae. 
  80. Bonnie and Clyde : Bonnie Elizabeth Parker (1910 - 1934) and Clyde Chestnut "Champion" Barrow (1909 - 1934) > American outlawas between 1932 and 1934. Both were shot dead by the Police in Bienville Parish, Louisiana on 23 May 1934.

  84. Buck Barrow (1903 - 1933) : real name Marvin Ivan "Buck" Barrow : older brother of Clyde Barrow leader of Barrow Gang. He died of his wound in 1933. 
  85. Buffalo Bill : An Indian who had shot over 4,000 bison to help feed men who were building a railroad. He was also one of the stars of the Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show in 1883.

  127. Donatello(1386 - 1466) : his full name is Donato di Niccolo di Betto Bardi > a famous Italian sculptor - his famous works include the nude statue of David. 
  128. Dora Bloch (1902 - 1976) : an Israeli hostage on Air France Flight 139 on 26 June 1976. She was murdered on the orders of Idi Amin following the Entebbe Raid .
  129. Dorothy Forstein : Born Dorothy Cooper in 1909 > an American woman who went missing after being last seen in her Philadelphia home on October 18, 1949. 
  130. Dwight David Eisenhower  (1890 - 1969) : 34th President of the United State (1953 - 1961). He was a Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force in Europe during WW2. 
  131. Earle Leonard Nelson (1897 - 1928) : American serial killer, rapist and necrophile > also known as the Gorilla Man, committing numerous rapes in February 1926. He was executed by hanging in Winnipeg in 1928. 
  132. Edgar Allan Poe (1809 - 1949): the first person to write Detective story with title "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" published by Graham's Magazine, Philadelphia in 1842 > considered the world's first detective story
  133. Edith Louisa Cavell : a nurse during the First World War > she and her colleague Philippe Baucq helped the English and French soldiers escape to Holland. She and Baucq was arrested in 1915 and condemned to death. 
  134. Edmond Halley(1656 - 1742) : English astronomer > produced the first meteorological map of the world and the first magnetic chart. He predicted the return of Comet previously seen in 1531, 1607 and 1682 which is now knows as Halley' Comet which last appeared in 1986. 
  135. Edmund Hillary (1919 - 2008) : full name is Sir Edmund Percival Hillary > New Zealand explorer - the first climbers confirmed to have reached the summit of Mount Everest together with Sherpa Tenzing Norgay on 29 May 1953. 
  136. Eduardo Roschmann (Captain)  German SS Officer, WW2 > he sent 80,000 Jews to their deaths at the concentration camp at Riga, Latvia. 
  137. Edward Heath (1916 - 2005) : full name is Sir Edward Richard George Heath > Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1970 - 1974. 
  138. Edward Jenner (1749 - 1823) : British physician > creating the smallpox vaccine in 1796.

  142. Elizabeth Taylor (1932 - 2011) : full name Dame Elizabeth Rosemond Taylor > a British and American actress. She was ranked greatest female screen legends by the American Film Institute in 1999. 
  143. Elvis Presley @ Elvis Aaron Presley (1935 - 1977) : American singer > known as "King of Rock and Roll" . He died of heart failure on August 16, 1977 at the aged of 42. 
  144. Emil von Behring : developed a serum for diphtheria in 1890. 
  145. Enrico Fermi (1901 - 1954) : US Physicist - engaged in the Manhattan Project in 1942 to produce the first atom bomb - Nobel Prize for physics in 1938. 
  146. Enrique of Malacca (1497 - 1522)  A Malay member of the Magellan Expedition that completed the first circumnavigation of the world in 1519 - 1522. According to some historians, it is possible that he could be the first person to circumnavigate the globe and return to his starting point, however, there is no record or source that confirms it.
  147. Eric Shipton: the British mountaineer > on 8 November 1951, he took photographs of footprints in the snows of the Himalayas, believe to be the footprint of legendary Yeti, the abominable snowman. 
  148. Ernest Miller Hemingway (1899 - 1961): commonly known as Ernest Hemingway > American novelist, awarded the 1954 Nobel Prize in Literature. 
  149. Ernst August Lehmann, Captain (1886 - 1937) : A German Zeppelin Captain > He was a victim of the Hindenburg Disaster in 1937. 
  150. Ewald von Kleist-Schmenzin (1890 - 1945) : a German Lawyer - member of the 20 July Plot to assassinate Hitler, for which he was executed. 
  151. Ferdinand II (1452 - 1516) : King of Aragon (1479-1516) > Husband and co-ruler of Queen Isabella I of Castile
  152. Ferdinand Magellan (1480 - 1521) : a Portuguese navigator working for Spain. He was killed in the Philippines during a battle with the natives. 
  153. Ferdinand Porsche : designed the Volkswagen in 1930s. 
  154. Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz: better known Fidel Castro > Prime Minister of Cuba (1959-1976) & President of Cuba (1976 -2008). Died 25 November 2016. 
  155. Fletcher Christian: the mates on HMS Bounty who led the mutiny against the Commanding Officer Captain William Bligh in 1787. 
  156. Florence Nightingale (1820 - 1910) : the famous female nurse during the Crimean War in 1856, nicknamed "The Lady with the Lamp" because she carried a lamp as she checked on her patients during the night. 
  157. Fran Phillips :  the first woman to set foot on the North Pole on 5th April 1971. 
  158. Francis Beaufort (Admiral Sir): devised the "Beaufort Scale" in1806, used to record the wind speed. 
  159. Francis Drake (Sir) (1540 - 1596) : English explorer - best known for his circumnavigation of the world in a single expedition between 1577 and 1580. The first Briton to sail round the world
  160. Francis Ford Coppola : US film director, writer and producer > the leading figures of the New Hollywood. Recipient of 5 Academic Awards, 6 Golden Globe Awards, 2 Palmes d'Or and a BAFTA Award.  Among his famous film are the "The Godfather".

  521. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: (1756 - 1791 > the greatest classical composer in history. 
  522. Wright Brothers : Orville Wright (1871 - 1949) & Wilbur Wright (1867 - 1912) > American aviation pioneers > inventing, building and flying the world's first successful airplane.
  523. Yasser Arafat : Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) - awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1993. 
  524. Yitzhak Rabin (1922 - 1995) : 5th Prime Minister of Israel > 
  525. Yuri Gagarin (1934 - 1968) : the first man to travel in Space on Vostok 1 in 1961. He died in air crash  on 27 March 1968 at the aged of 34.
