- The earliest of the present-day inhabitants of Malaysia are the Orang Asli of the Peninsula and people such as the Penan of Sarawak and the Rungus of Sabah. Their presence in the country probably dates back to over 5,000 years
- The longest river in Malaysia is Sungai Rejang (563km) while the longest rive in Peninsula Malaysia is Sungai Pahang (475 km).
- The highest mountain in Malaysia and in Southeast Asia is Gunung Kinabalu (4101m).
- In Sarawak the two highest peak are Gunung Murud (2425m) and Gunung Mulu (2372m) which also boasts one of the largest natural cave in the world.
- The Mulu Caves located in the Mulu National Park, 100 km west of Miri, boasts of having the world's largest cave passage (the Deer Cave), the world's largest natural rock chamber (the Sarawak Chamber) and the Longest cave system in South-East Asi (the Clearwater Cave).
- The Rafflesia, the world's largest flower, is found in Sabah and Sarawak, Kalimantan, Sumatra and rarely in the Peninsula. Nepenthes raja the largest of the pitcher plants which can hold over two litres of water is known in Sabah only.
- The 'Orang Utan' is only found in Sabah and not found anywhere else in the world. The long-nosed or Proboscis monkey (orang Belanda) is also only found in Sabah, and is distinguished by its huge, bulbous nose.
- The National Anthem, whose tune has a romantic background which links it to the exile of Sultan Abdullah of Perak to the Seychelles by the British, was selected by a special committee headed by Malaysia's first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman. The National Anthem in fact is an adaptation of the Perak State Anthem. During the 1992 National Day celebration, the National Anthem was given a rather fast beat.
- The National Monument is a brainchild of the American Sculptor, Felix de Weldon, who also the creator of the famous Iwo Jima Memorial in Washington D.C.
- Television Malaysia was launched on 28 December 1963. Colour transmission was launched on 28 December 1978.
- Department of Broadcasting of Malaya was set up on 1 April 1946. It was then known as Radio Malaya.
- Malaysia's first private network, TV 3 went on air as a fully commissioned station on 1 June 1984. The Mega TV the nation's first subscription television network ws incorporated on 18 October 1994 whild the 3rd Private Television NTV7 was launched on _________
- Malaysia first satellite MEASAT 1 (Malaysian East Asia Satellite) was launched on 12 January 1996 at Korou French Guiana, South America. MEASAT 2 was launched on October 1996.
- The New Strait Times had its beginning in Singapore on 15 July 1845. The Company was incorporated in Malaysia on 20 December 1961.
- Utusan Melayu (M) Berhad traces its name and history to year 1938 when Utusan Melayu Press Limited was incorporated in Singapore. The company moved to Kuala Lumpur in 1958. In 1964, Mingguan Malaysia, the first newspaper in romanised Malay was published.
- Cricket was played in this country as early as 1857. The earliest inter-State match was recorded in Taiping in 1884 between Perak and Pulau Pinang. The first annual test between Singapore and the Federated Malay States was in 1905. The first oversea match was against Hong Kong in 1890.
- The first Cycling publicised race was from Kuala Lumpur to Klang and bck held in 1929.
- The Malaya Cup competition started in 1921 marked by a match between Singapore and Selangor, played on the Selangor Club ground in Kuala Lumpur resulting from a visit by the British warship HMS Malaya to Malayan waters.
- The oldest gold club in the country is in Taiping, Perak, no known as New Club. It was formed on 1886. The Selangor Golf Club was founded in 1893 and the first National Golf Tournament was held in 1902.
- The Malayan Hockey team first hit International limelight when it took part in the 1956 Olympic in Melbourne. In 1975, it reached the semi-finals of the World Cup in Kuala Lumpur for the first time. The first women's hockey competition was held in 1920s at inter-club and inter-state level.
- Rugby was played in Singapore in the 1880s. The first Asian Rugby Club emerged in 1925 in Negeri Sembilan. The first purely Malaysian inter-State rugby competition was held in 1934.
- Sailing or yachting was first introduced to Malaya by the British in 1927 where the first yacht club was formed in Port Dickson.
- The first properly organised Sepak Takraw competition was held in Pulau Pinang in 1945. The game received international status in 1965 when it was included in the SEAP Games (SEA Games) in Kuala Lumpur.
- Swimming began at club level in 1903. Malaya sent its first swimming entrants to the Melbourne Olympics Games in 1956.
- The first exclusive Oil Palm estate in the Peninsula as started in 1917 by a Frenchman, Henry Fauconnier. By 1940 the Peninsula ranked 4th among world producers of palm oil.
- The Petroleum industry in Malaysia had its beginnings in Sarawak where the first oil well was opened at Miri in 1910.
- Malaysian Airlines history dates as far back as 1937 when it was known as Malayan Airways Limited (MAL). In 1967 it was renamed Malaysia-Singapore Airline (MSA). However in 1971 the partnership was dissolved and Malaysia Airline System (MAS) was formed. It changed its named to Malaysia Airlines on 15 October 1987.
- The first steam engine chugged along the tracks from Taiping to Port Weld pulling cars carrying tin ore in 1885. The 32 km route linking Kuala Lumpur with Port Klang in 1886 was open followed by Tapah Road to Teluk Anson (now Teluk Intan) route in 1893, Kuala Lumpur to Prai in 1903, reached southwards to Gemas and Johor Bahru in 1909.
- The National Postcode was launched on 1 October 1985
- Telekom Malaysia Bhd was the first operator in the Southeast Asia to introduce Nation-wide cellular Communications network with radio coverage composite of 182 075 sq.km area of land and 145 488 sq.km of sea.
- The earliest Public electricity supply in the Peninsula dates back to 1904 when Electric Lightning and Power was provided by the Municipality of Georgetown, Pulau Pinang. The first recorded Electrical mining pump being employed by Loke Yew and Tamboosamy Pillai in their mine at Rawang in 1896.
- The first National car PROTON SAGA rolled out of the factory on 9 July 1985. PROTON started it export programme in 1986 with the first export of 25 car to Bangladesh.
- Malaysian International Shipping Corporation (MISC) is was incorporated on 6 November 1968, its first vessel Bunga Raya, a cargo line of 18 901 dwt tonnes, named after Malaysia's national flower the Hibiscus.
- The Amanah Saham Nasional (ASN) scheme was launched on 20April 1981 while Amanah Saham Bumiputera (ASB) on 2 january 1990.
- Kuala Lumpur was surrended by negotiation by the state of Selangor on 1 February 1974 as a Federal Territory followed by Island of Labuan in Sabah in 1984.
- The history of Malaysian Army began with the formation of its first unit when 25 dedicated and adventurous Malay youth joined the first Experimental Squad of the Royal Malay Regiment on 1 March 1933 in Port Dickson.
- The Royal Malaysian Navy was formed on 27 April 1934 by the British Government at Singapore. It was originally called the Malay Section of the Royal Navy. on 23 May 1952, the Queen Elizabeth of England bestowed the title "Royal" on the Malayan Navy.
- The Royal Malaysia Air Force was formed at the Royal Air Base in Kuala Lumpur on 2 June 1958, it began with the arrival of the Scottish Aviation Twin Pioneer as its first aircraft in service.
- Pantai Sabak in Kota Bharu was the site of the first landing of Japanese troop in the Peninsula during the World War 2 on 8 December 1941.
- The Studhuys at Melaka was built by the Dutch in 1650 as the official residence of Dutch Governors and their officers.
- St. Francis Xavier Church at Melaka was built in 1849 by Reverend Farve, a Frenchman, dedicated to St.Francis Xavier.
- A Famosa at Melaka was built by the Portuguese in 1511 as a Fortress.
- Cheng Hoon Teng's Temple at Melaka, the oldest Chinese Temple in the country was built in 1646.
- Kg.Hulu Mosque at Melaka, the oldest mosque in Malaysia was built by Dato Shamsudin in 1728.
- Bukit China at Melaka is the largest Chinese cemetery outside China with many of the tombs dating back to Ming Dynasty.
- The original state of Negeri Sembilan were Sungai Ujong, Jelebu, Johol, Rembau, Jelas Inas, Kelang, Naning, Segamat/Pasir Besar and Ulu Pahang/Kenaboi. Johol and Jelai Inas was now part of Kuala Pilah district, Naning was in Alor Gajah district, Segamat in Johor, Pasir Besar in Tampin district and Ulu Pahang-Kenaboi in now part of Pahang and Jelebu district.
- Bukit Larut in Taiping (formerly know as Maxwell Hill) was the oldest Hill Resort in the country.
- The Leaning Tower at Teluk Intan, Perak was built by a Chinese contractor name Leong Choon Choong.
- Perlis and Pulau Pinang was originally part of Kedah. On restoring the Sultan of Kedah to his throne in 1842, Thais separated Perlis and established it as a vassal principality in its own right. While Pulau Pinang was acquired on behalf of the English East India Company as a naval and trading base by Captain Francis Light in 1786 from the Sultan of Kedah.
- Georgetown, Pulau Pinang was named after the reigning British Monarch, George III. The territory of the mainland was named Province Wellesley after The Marquis of Wellesley, the British Governor-General of India. Georgetown was the first town in Malaysia to obtain city status way back in 1960's.
- The Clock Tower at Persiaran Raja Edward, Penang was presented to Penang by local millionaire Cheah Chen Eok in 1897 to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria.
- Fort Cornwallis at Lebuh Light, Penang was the spot that Captain Francis Light first landed on the island in 1786, originally a wooden stockade. It was replaced by a concrete structure built by convict labour in 1804.
- The Kek Lok Si Temple at Ayer Itam, Penang was built in 1890 took more than 20 years to complete. It is reputed to be the most beautiful and largest Buddhist temple complex in Southeast Asia.
- Wat Chayamangkalaram at Lorong Burmah, Penang houses the 3rd largest reclining Buddha in the world measuring 33 m.
- The Penang Bridge is the longest bridge in Asia and is the 3rd longest in the world with 8.5 km over water, 13.5 km long.

- Malaysia was the only nation in the world to win against Communism in the guerrilla war fought from 1948 - 1960. This period was referred as Malayan Emergency.
- Petronas Twin Towers is the world's highest Two-Storey bridge that connect the towers.
- The National Monument is one of the world's largest free-standing bronze sculptures., the monument was sculptured in 1966 by Felix de Weldon, creator of the Iwo Jima Monument in Washington D.C.
- Sri Maha Mariamman Temple located at Jalan Bandar, Kuala Lumpur is the oldest Hindu temple built in 1873.

- Bukit Cina at Melaka was a marriage gift from Sultan of Melaka to princess Hang Li Po. The hill was actually 2 adjoining hills covering 25 hectares, with a graveyard that contains more than 12,000 graves, the oldest tomb dating back to 1622.
- The Masjid Kampung Keling at Melaka was built by the Indian Muslim traders in 1748 during the Dutch colonial era.

- Malaysia's tropical rainforest, Taman Negara, is older than the Amazon rainforests, Making it the oldest natural Rainforest in the world. Furthermore, it has more than 10,000 species of plants.
- Kepong has the world's largest manmade rainforest - the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia, which you can visit to observe birds and wildlife and enjoy recreational activities.
- The world's oldest complete human skeleton ever found is Perak Man in Malaysia, dating back some 11,000 years! It is currently on display at Lenggong Archaelogical Museum in Hulu Perak.
