MALAYSIAN CULINARY DELIGHT - PART 3

STEAK & CHIPS
A slice of lean beef, grilled or fried, possible with a sauce. Chips are thick cut batons of potato, deef-fried , not to be confused with fries, which are thin sticks of potato, also fried. This western food is now a favorite of Malaysians.


SUSHI
Sushi is a Japanese dish which has now become a favorite in Malaysia. It is a prepared vinegared rice (sushi-meshi) usually with some sugar and salt, plus a variety of ingredients. 


KACANG POOL
A pool of beans makes a hearty breakfast in Johor. Inspired by the Egyptian bean-based staple know as ful medames, this hearty dish consist of fava beans that get cooked with spices until they have a rich and smooth texture. A singel sunny-side up egg is then gently places on top, with slice of lime, green chilli and red onion to finish it off.


MALAYSIAN PIZZA
The world most popular fast food, a dish of Italian origin consisting of a usually round, flat based leavened wheat-based dough topped with tomatoes, cheese and ofter various other ingredients such as anchovies, mushrooms, onion, olives, vegetables, meats etc..which is then baked at a high temperature. 
Pizza Hut first opened its restaurants in Malaysia in 1982 located at Plaza Yow Chuan,Kuala Lumpur. 


LAKSA
A spicy noodle soup that consist of thick wheat noodles or rice vermicelli with chicken, prawn or fish, served in spicy soup based on either rich and spicy curry coconut milk or sour asam of various types. 


NASI BRIYANI
Nasi Briyani dishes are very popular in Malaysia and Singapore, they are popularized through Mamak stalls, hawker centres and food courts as well as fine dining restaurants. 
Briyani is derived from the Persian word Birian, which means 'fried before cooking' and Birinj, the Persian word for rice. Malaysian Biryani dishes were introduced to Malaysia by the Indian Muslim as well as the Arab diaspora. 
There are many variation of Nasi Briyani including Chicken Briyani and Mutton Briyani.

AMBUYAT
A dish derived from the interior trunk of the Sago palm. It is a starchy bland substance, similar to tapioca starch. Ambuyat is the national dish of Brunei, and a local speciality in the Malaysian state of Sabah and Sarawak, and Federal Territory of Labuan, where it is sometimes known as Linut. 
Ambuyat is eaten with a bamboo chopstick called chandas, by rolling the starch around the prongs and then dipping it into the sauce, of which there are many varieties including tempoyak. 


KERANG REBUS
One of my favorite, the boiled clams topped with soy sauce or chilli sauce.


TEMPOYAK IKAN PATIN
Temerloh in Pahang is very well known as "Patin Town" due to the abundance of Patin (Silver catfish). Patin fish is notorious for its juicy taste and among the best freshwater fish in Malaysia & world. 
Tempoyak are usually made by taking the flesh of Durian and mixing it with salt and sugar. 
Tempoyak is not normally consumed solely, it is usually eaten as condiment or as an ingredient for cooking; such as cooked with coconut milk curry as gulai tempoyak ikan patin (pangasius fish tempoyak curry), or mixed with spicy chili pepper as sambal tempoyak.


MAGGI CURRY MEE
Maggi mee is an international brand of seasonings, instant soup and noodles that is originated in Switzerland invented by Julius Maggi in 1884. The Maggi company was acquired by Nestle in1947. 
In Malaysia, MAGGI noodles were first introduced in 1971, for Malaysian Maggi Mee has become a convenient comfort food that can be cooked in less than 5 minutes. The 2 most traditional and iconic flavours that have been around since then being the Curry and Chicken. 


KUEH TART @ PINEAPPLE TART
The Peranakan Nyonyas in Malaysia adopted Portuguese baking techniques when they were occupied by the Portuguese Empire in 1511.
Pineapple tarts are little short crust pastry tarts with homemade pineapple jam. In Malaysia, these are made for special occassions like Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year and Deepavali. 


HALF BOILED EGG
A popular breakfast dish from Malaysia. Usually served with kaya toast & white coffee. It is usually served with a drizzle of soy sauce and sprinkled with a dash of white pepper powder. 


NUGGETS
A Small piece of chicken or fish that has been covered in breadcrumbs and fried. Nugget is a favourite of children, big and small. 


HOME MADE SPAGETTHI
A traditional Italian cuisine, made of milled wheat, water and sometimes enriched with vitamins and minerals. Spaghetti now become the favorite food of Malaysians.


SARDIN GULUNG @ SARDINE ROLLS
A staple in Malaysian pantries because of their versality. Easy to make and perfect for breakfast or afternoon snack.


HAND-PULLED LANZHOU BEEF NOODLES
My favourite Hand-pulled beef noodle Chinese Muslim style remind me of Guilin in China. In Malay we called it Mee Tarik.

SPAGETTHI CARBONARA
A dish of hot pasta into which other ingredients (such as eggs, ham and grated cheese) have been mixed.
