GREAT EASTERN BUBBLE DASH RUN 2016 (PENANG)

On September 25, 2016, Penang hosted the first-ever Great Eastern Bubble Dash Run. This unique event transformed the area around Queensbay Mall into a sea of multi-colored foam and bubbles, attracting thousands of participants for a morning of fitness and fun.

The 2016 run was held in two major cities in Malaysia, attracting over 25,000 participants in total.
1. Penang on 25 September 2016 at Quensbay Mall
2. Kuala Lumpur on 23 October 2016 at Dataran Merdeka.

Here is a look back at the details of that vibrant event:

Event Overview
  • Location: Queensbay Mall, Bayan Lepas, Penang.
  • Primary Category:
    • 5km Bubble Dash (Fun Run).
    • 12 km Live Great Run
    • 21 km Live Great Run
  • Organizers: A collaboration between Great Eastern Life and the Heart Foundation of Malaysia (Yayasan Jantung Malaysia).
  • Purpose: To promote a healthy, active lifestyle while raising funds for the Heart Foundation of Malaysia.
Key Highlights
  • The Bubble Stations: The course featured several stations where runners were showered with massive amounts of multi-colored bubble foam.
  • The Vibe: Unlike a standard race, this was a "fun run" focused on the experience. Participants ran through foam clouds to the sound of heart-pumping music played along the route.
  • Runner's Kit: Participants received a "Live Great" pack which typically included a colorful T-shirt, a pair of sunglasses (to protect eyes from the foam), a face mask, and a finisher medal upon completion.
  • Healthy Heart Carnival: After the run, a carnival was held featuring free health screenings, Zumba sessions, interactive games, and various food stalls.
Why It Was Special

This was the first time a multi-colored bubble run of this scale was brought to Malaysia. It was part of a two-city tour, with the second leg taking place at Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur later that October. The 2016 event was particularly successful, helping to raise over RM150,000 for charity across both locations.
